Description:
Julia Huntington ( Mrs. J.C.) and her cottage at 248 Center Street, Excelsior, MN. This was her summer residence. The house in the background to the right was the Thomas Aspden home. Mrs. Huntington's house is a 1 1/2 story cottage—style house. The original front section of it was built for Anna B. Roeder in 1885 (Surveyor's info). The rear section of the house is the old railroad depot which was moved from near the intersection of Water and Third St. Julia A. (Mrs. J. C.) Huntington bought it between 1906—1907 for use as a summer cottage. She didn't like the interior so immediately made changes. The back of the house (the old depot) consisted of the kitchen, bedroom and one upstairs bedroom. The front of the house had a large dining room, small parlor and one bedroom upstairs. Because access to the dining room from the kitchen was through the bedroom, Mrs. Huntington made modifications so there would be direct access from the kitchen to the dining room. She also screened the porches on two sides of the house.

She sold the house in 1925 to George Leach a homebuilder and contractor. He died in 1928 and a warranty deed was issued to his widow Lettie M. Leach in 1928.

According to the Abstract on the property Lettie Leach sold the house to Philip H. Hill on a warranty deed dated June 28, 1951. He sold the property to Clarence O. Kohls on a Contract for Deed dated Dec. 26, 1951. Kohls sold the property to Karl and Lois Diehl on a mortgage dated August 30, 1965. The property was sold to Stanley Proden and Mary Chapman on Jan. 1, 1983.
