Description:
People sitting on shore looking out at Crane Island. Crane Island is located in the Upper Lake near Smithtown Bay. The island was once home to Blue Heron Rockery, but early settlers mistakenly called the herons 'cranes' hence the name 'Crane Island'. In 1991 the island was designated a historic district and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
