Steamboat Image Collection
Description:
The "Sue Gardiner". On the back of picture: "Built in Detroit Michigan for actor Gardiner. Brought to Minnetonka 1867. First propeller on the Lake. About 35 feet long. Hull bought at Lake City by E.A. Bromley about 1890". The boat was the second steamboat on Lake Minnetonka. It was built in Detroit and brought to Minnetonka by Charles R. Gardiner in 1871 and named for his daughter. He sold the boat to John W. Mann who ran in in conjunction with his Upper Lake House near current—day Edgewood. She was sold, probably after the 1894 season to Minneapolis photographer Edward A. Bromley. He sold it in 1875 and it was removed to Lake Pepin. She was still running out of Lake City Mn in 1885 but by 1905 was out of service. ADOOB by Scott McGinnis
