Description:
Train going by the Lafayette Hotel. Built by James J. Hill, it's grand opening was July 2, 1882. This largest hotel even seen at Minntonka exemplified Minnetonka's heyday, her peak years of the 1880's. In Sept. of 1883, the Lafayette entertained 1000 guests at a gala dinner for Pres. Chester A. Arthur. The Hotel Lafayette was destroyed by fire on October 4, 1897.
