Description:
Postcard of Hotel Keywahdin done is color with a small photo of a man in the corner. Post mark on the back is Jan. 14, 1908. 'Hotel Keywahdin, Lake Minnetonka, Minneapolis, Minn.' is on the front of the postcard. The hotel started out as the Cottagewood Club House in 1885. By 1895 it was known as the Cottagewood Hotel. Around the turn of the century it was renamed the Keywahdin meaning 'Northwest Wind'. The hotel was a regular stop for the streetcar boats from about 1906—1926. The hotel had an interesting feature—a 'water coaster' which may have been similar to the 'water slide' or 'water tobaggan' at Spring Park where the track over the road was high enough to allow cars to pass under it. The hotel burned on May 23, 1924.
