Description:
Hotel Lafayette from the New Narrows about 1887. Hotel Lafayette was the largest of all Minnetonka hotels. It was built by James J. Hill and had it's grand opening on July 2, 1882. It stood on a ridge of land that overlooked the Upper Lake on one side and the Lower Lake on the other. In Sept. 1883 the hotel entertained a thousand guests at a gala dinner for President Chester A. Arthur. On October 4, 1897 the hotel was totally destroyed by fire. ("Lake Minnetonka's Historic Hotels")
