Description:
Hand tinted stereograph of Dock at Lake Park. Includes both pictures. On front of picture is Webster & Albee, Publisher, Rochester, NY. Artistic American Scenery. Lake Park Hotel was built in 1879 by the Northwestern Sunday School Association. It originally called the Minnetonka Park Hotel. The hotel had 250 acres with almost five miles of shoreline. It had tennis courts and baseball grounds and a pavilion originally called the Lake Park Amusement Hall that included a theater and ballroom. In 1883 an ad ran for the Grand Opening of the "Roller Skating Rink". Around 1904 the name was changed to the Tonka Bay Hotel and the pavilion was called the Tonka Bay Casino. The hotel was soldd in 1908 to the Twin City Rapid Transit Company. The hotel closed in 1911 and in 1913 the hotel was razed. The Casino was still standing at that time and was offered to the city of Excelsior if someone would pay to move it. It was moved across the lake in winter to a site near where the amusement part would be built. ("Lake Minnetonka's Historic Hotels")
